My relationship with food and my body was a painful roller coaster of hope and defeat for over five decades. My personal identity was either SUCCESS or FAILURE based on my weight.
Two bariatric surgeries didn't solve the problem. Neither did being an inpatient in a psychiatric hospital Eating Disorders Unit. Neither did shame, guilt, health issues or embarrassment. Prayers seemed to be unheard. Constant lying to myself only furthered the pain.
I paid the money, bought the stuff, trusted the experts (and celebrities) signed up, joined up, swallowed the pills, took the shots, chewed the (delicious) gummies, ate the (nasty) cardboard food-like substances, detoxed, juiced, fasted, ketoed, carbed and tried to be hypnotized.
And yet--my adult weight was as high as 306, as low as 112 and every number in between MULTIPLE TIMES.
My back, knees and feet hurt. I was short of breath. I had palpitations. I struggled with personal hygiene. (It's hard to clean what you can't reach.)
I started saying no to events with family and friends. I turned down travel and adventures.
I struggled to dance with Mr. Handsome on my swollen feet, water filled ankles and painful knees.
I tried to hide from God. I didn't believe He could use me.
I hurt in my body, my mind and my spirit.
I call that DIET TRAUMA.
I finally realized NO ONE ELSE has the perfect solution for me. I have plenty of proof of that fact.
No one else, no matter how famous or smart, or how big their marketing budget, can fix me.
I'm the only person who knows what foods I like and the ones I hate. I'm the only one who knows my budget. I'm the only one who knows how often I cook and how often I have to eat out. I'm the only one providing meals for my family---including Mr. Handsome, the sugar and snack lover.
I chose to turn everything I learned from all of my diet endeavors into a framework of life habits, food and exercise decisions that WORKED FOR ME.
I learned how my thoughts were shaping my actions and my actions were creating my life.
I learned how to live my faith in a way that transformed my health and my relationship with my body.
The Grace On Her Plate Podcast and my coaching program, DESIGN U, are where I share a framework and strategy to help you lay down the traditional diet- world trap of believing that someone else has your answer.
It is my honor and privilege to help you transform YOUR relationship with food, your body and God, so that you can live joyfully in the life He has designed for you.
